Leads teams of network engineers to work with customers to develop requirements for network services and then to design cost-effective, secure, and reliable solutions to meet those requirements
Research new technologies in the fields of routing, switching, wireless, security technology, and vendor solutions and makes recommendations
Serve as team lead within the work unit and ensures that work of others follows departmental workflow and processes
Tier 3 resource for various network performance and connectivity issues
Prepares and maintains detailed network documentation both for networking team and end users, ensuring that all documentation meets department standards
Configures and manages central network components (including network distribution and core, firewalls and VPN gateways, wireless controllers) to provide service to end users and departments
Configures and manages security perimeter devices (firewalls and VPN gateways) to provide service to end users and departments
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electronics, telecommunications, engineering, or a closely related field plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in network design, analysis, or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors / CCIE
Customer Service: Must possess an aptitude for patience, professionalism, tactfulness, and empathy; must have the ability to assess the specific needs of the customer and be able to communicate these appropriately; must be able to work with high-end stakeholders and negotiate the political landscapes that may exist in the enterprise; must possess the ability to clearly communicate with clients and team members through written and spoken word
Project Management: Ability to manage projects that have high impact and/or of high complexity; projects often involve significant changes to infrastructure or the implementation of emerging technologies
Planning and Organization:  Ability to lead the work unit in long-term planning
Technical Knowledge: Extensive knowledge to design the most advanced solutions associated with network expansions and integration of new technologies
Technical Solution Development: Significant knowledge to be considered the university expert in an advanced voice, video, or data network specialty and serves as a resource for other specialists
Technical Support: Advanced knowledge of technology resources and specialty areas to serve as resource for analysts
Consultancy Skills: Ability to provide expertise and consulting to committees, boards, and/or CIO; ability to consult with clients, high-level technicians, analysts, and technical peers to resolve problems
