VantageLinks is a dedicated Information Technology (IT) staffing company supporting our clients with all their IT Needs. We currently have an opening for a Senior Network Engineer with one of our premier clients.


The Position:
The Senior Network Engineer installs, maintains and evaluates network systems and communications. Designs and implements Data and Voice Network solutions in line with the needs of the business. Troubleshoots complex network issues involving various factors. SME with extensive knowledge of Internet, computer, routers, switches, firewalls, etc.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Design and deployment of Local Area Network solutions. Defining and documenting implementation guidelines, deployment of solutions, following developments in product range, standardizing on hardware and software revision levels.
  • Design and deployment of Wide Area Network solutions. Defining and documenting implementation guidelines, deployment of solutions, following developments in product range, standardizing on hardware and software revision levels. Taking the lead engineering role in global deployments: defining RFP, design, migration strategy, managing rollout.
  • Design and deployment of Firewall infrastructure solutions based on the Cisco, Checkpoint and Palo Alto product ranges.  Defining firewall rule sets, standardizing hardware and software revision levels, Taking the lead engineering role in all local deployments and working closely with Application Architects to map and understand traffic flows.
  • Work closely and effectively with company Global Technical organization to reach desired end-results for the North American Region.
  • Assist in the rollout of integrated video conferencing and webinar solutions; developing and documenting design and support models, followed by implementation.
  • Provide third level support to the LAN, WAN and Application environments.
  • This position will also routinely interact with equipment vendors and service providers to stay abreast of technologies as well as meeting with System Architects of the larger organization to represents the concerns of the North America Rural and Wholesale to the larger organization.
  • This position has responsibility to assess, make analytical decisions, and develop implementation/upgrade roadmap for the specific technology functional domain, in accordance with global and local initiatives.
  • Must have the ability to quickly identify cause of technical problems and provide resolution. Expert in identified technical domain, providing a point of escalation to the IT Service Desk.
  • Must have the ability to provide technical support over the phone; professional phone skills and demeanor required.
  • Manage technical domain(s) enabling supportability and upgrade path. Engineer technical solutions in accordance with defined global and local architectures, policies and standards that satisfy business, regulatory, and internal technical drivers.
  • Develop and document local policies and standards that underpin defined architectures. Contribute and affect the evolution of global architecture, policies and standards in defined technical area to accommodate the unique needs of North America Rural and Wholesale.
  • Mentor and guide the Network and Telecom Administrators
  • Develop clear and concise documentation for end users and support teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Manage projects, within technical domain, from start to finish, coordinating the entire project life-cycle, team and end-user involvement and impact.
  • Ability to lead problem resolution identifying gaps in documentation and providing clarified documentation for frontline technical staff.
  • Rotational on-call responsibility
  • Ensures that projects are implemented within time and financial constraints.
  • Delivers support (as an escalation point) to the business.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in Data, Voice and Video Network technology and deploy where the business may demonstrably benefit.
  • Mentors and guides Network and Telecom Administrators in developing technical solutions
  • Some travel will be required. Demonstrated ability to grasp and use new technology concepts.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert understanding of Cisco routing and switching concepts and topologies (BGP, EIGRP, TCP/IP, VPN, MPLS networks, DNS, DHCP)
  • Extensive experience in telecommunications, focused on design and deployment of Local and Wide Area Networks.
  • Detailed understanding of layered network security principles
  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP

Solid experience in design and deployment of:

  • MPLS-VPN layer 3, & layer 2 solutions
  • OSPF & BGP routing protocols
  • SIP and H323 protocols
  • QoS & traffic contracts in LAN/WAN.
  • IP Multicast in LAN/WAN.
  • Firewalls based on Checkpoint, Cisco and Palo Alto product ranges.
  • Video Conferencing solutions
  • Network Access Control based on 802.1x, PKI and Radius
  • Aruba Wireless and Clearpass

Good experience in:

  • Design and deployment of IP Telephony solutions; Avaya desirable.
  • Juniper router platforms.
  • Experience with WAN optimization using Riverbed.
  • F5 local/global traffic management
  • Design and deployment of virtualization within a data center.
  • Microsoft infrastructure components and functionality.
  • IPv6 implementation and migration strategy.
  • Network management tools: HP Open View, InfoVista, Netflow Tracker, and Solarwinds.
  • Packet analysis tools: Omnipeek, Wireshark.
  • Solid analytical skills: troubleshooting, conducting network and application delivery evaluation studies.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Excellent writing skills in the English language.
  • Can present complex technical ideas and solutions to a non-technical audience
  • Competent in the use of: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Visio

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above
  • 7-10 years of experience with Information Technology.
  • 7-10 years of experience with Cisco Networking.
  • Must have experience mentoring and training members of the team
