If you answered YES to these questions (well... you don’t really have to like fruit :), then we want to hear from you!

Stark Bro’s is a family-owned, world leader in the development and sale of fruit trees, garden plants, and gardening supplies. For over 200 years, we’ve leveraged technology to improve business operations and customer experiences. We’re seeking a Senior Software Developer to help us build toward the next 200 years of growth and success.

 Software Developer

The Software Developer’s primary role will be to enhance and support our client’s custom-built e-commerce site. Ideally, you have experience in ecommerce development, API development, or platform integration. The software you create will have direct impact on the success of the business and will be enjoyed by thousands of customers every day! You won’t be one developer among hundreds, and your work will make a difference.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop APIs and other integration components between a chosen e-commerce platform and internal ERP systems.
  • Implement tweaks, plugins, or other features in the chosen e-commerce platform, to satisfy nonstandard business requirements like plant regulations and communicating harvest estimates to customers.
  • Implement proposals created by UX/UI web designers, to the degree allowed by the chosen platform. (Said designer could be you, if you have both the skill and willingness.)
  • Support the existing Java-based project until a replacement is completed. This may include small-scale enhancements or troubleshooting issues. For example, downtime, poor performance, and any errors or warnings reported by automated tools (vulnerability scans, issues that omit products from search engine results, etc.).
  • Willingness to respond to off-hours issues with the website, if any. These are rare, and we always and typically involve full team collaboration to resolve any issues quickly so we can go back to relaxing.
  • Deploy website changes to QA and production environments, occasionally outside normal business hours.
  • Work with management, marketing staff, and other IT staff to manage and prioritize projects. For example, coordinating projects with both an e-commerce and ERP impact. For example, gathering project requirements, developing estimates, and presenting proposals for suggested enhancements.
  • Remain educated on various standards and recommendations (OWASP security guidelines, ADA compliance, etc.) to stay current with best practices as the industry evolves.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience with object-oriented software development in Java.
  • Excellent SQL development skills, including writing queries, creating and modifying database schemas, writing and modifying stored procedures. MS SQL Server experience preferred (huge plus).
  • Experience developing applications that communicate with third-party APIs and services using REST or other web service technologies (huge plus).

Work Location

Most of the IT team works remotely from home, with occasional travel to the main office in Louisiana MO.
