Leah Amir, MS, MHA, VantageLinks President and CEO, recently published an article with the Future Science Group: “Cost–effectiveness of endobronchial percutaneous biopsy compared with transthoracic biopsy for diagnosis of peripheral lung lesions.” Lung Cancer Management, April 2014, Vol. 3, No. 2, Pages 135-148. The article highlights a new protocol used to diagnose the high volume of patients suspect of having lung cancer. The advanced technologies improve the diagnostic accuracy of peripheral lung lesions. Their findings suggest combining Radial Endobronchial Ultrasound (R-EBUS) and Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy (ENB) delivers a high-diagnostic yield at a lower cost owing to the lower risk of a pneumothorax when compared with transthoracic lung biopsy.
